Kathangari Informal Settlement Lights Up as 70 Households Connected to Electricity

Kathangari -kirimari ward

In a landmark achievement for the residents of Kathangari in Kirimari Ward, 70 households have officially been connected to the national electricity grid, marking a new dawn for the once energy-deprived community. This development brings to an end years of living in darkness and opens doors to new opportunities for growth, safety, and economic empowerment.

The electrification project is the result of a successful collaboration between the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) and the Manyatta National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) under the Matching Fund initiative. The partnership underscores the power of joint efforts in delivering vital infrastructure to underserved communities.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, local leaders praised the initiative as a critical step toward social transformation and inclusive development. “We are not just lighting homes—we are lighting futures. Electricity access means our children can study at night, businesses can thrive, and families can live in safety and dignity,” said a community elder.

The Kathangari project is part of a larger, ongoing campaign to light up villages across Manyatta Constituency, one community at a time. With each connection, the constituency moves closer to its vision of universal electricity access and improved quality of life for all residents.

Hon. Gitonga Mukunji and project stakeholders reiterated their commitment to scaling the program, promising that no village would be left behind. “Today, we celebrate Kathangari. Tomorrow, we move to the next village. We are lighting up Manyatta, village by village.”

The successful implementation of the project is a testament to what coordinated planning, local leadership, and community involvement can achieve.

Onward to the next village — Manyatta is rising.
