Empowering Youth in Governance: KYPA Champions Engagement at People Dialogue Festival

As a bi-partisan parliamentary caucas, KYPA has provided an opportunity for young MPs to engage a group of youths on pressing issues affecting young people in Kenya during the People Dialogue Festival by Centre for Multiparty Democracy Kenya.

We also engaged in a question and answer session with H.E Kalonzo Musyoka Party Leader Wiper Party and Hon. Eugene Wamalwa, Party Leader DAP K on party democracy and engagement with youths.

Young people must be equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to meaningfully engage in governance, policy advocacy, and democratic participation. With this vision in mind, the Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association (KYPA), a bi-partisan parliamentary caucus, played a pivotal role at the People Dialogue Festival organized by the Centre for Multiparty Democracy Kenya.

During the event, KYPA provided a platform for young Members of Parliament to interact with a diverse group of youth, discussing pressing issues affecting young people in Kenya. The engagement aimed to amplify youth perspectives, create networking opportunities, and encourage active participation in governance and policy advocacy.

A key highlight of the festival was an interactive question-and-answer session featuring H.E. Kalonzo Musyoka, Party Leader of the Wiper Democratic Movement, and Hon. Eugene Wamalwa, Party Leader of the Democratic Action Party – Kenya (DAP-K). Discussions revolved around party democracy, youth involvement in political processes, and strategies to enhance youth engagement in governance.

Speaking during the event, Hon. Gitonga Mukunji emphasized the importance of youth participation in shaping Kenya’s political and economic future. “Young people must take charge of their future by actively participating in governance. Platforms like the People Dialogue Festival provide the necessary space for learning, engagement, and networking to drive meaningful change,” he stated.

The festival served as a crucial forum for knowledge exchange, allowing young leaders to express their views and explore pathways for political and economic empowerment. KYPA reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for youth inclusion in decision-making processes at all levels of governance.

As the discussions continue beyond the festival, KYPA remains dedicated to fostering bipartisan collaboration and ensuring that youth voices are not only heard but also translated into actionable policies that benefit the younger generation and the nation at large.
