Hon. Gitonga Mukunji Leads Young Parliamentarians in Courting the Youth for Active Voter Participation

In a bid to ensure the youth’s voice is central to Kenya’s electoral process, Hon. Gitonga Mukunji, alongside a group of young parliamentarians, has committed to ensuring that the youth are heard in the upcoming and subsequent elections. This initiative comes as part of a broader call to encourage young Kenyans to take an active role in the democratic process.

Hon. Mukunji emphasized the importance of the youth’s participation, stating that their involvement would significantly impact the direction of the country’s leadership. “We must ensure that the voices of the youth are heard, and that their participation in voting is not just encouraged but facilitated,” he said.

A recent courtesy call to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) was part of these efforts. The meeting, attended by the IEBC CEO, Mr. Hussein Marjan, and his team of directors, was an opportunity for young leaders to engage in discussions on electoral integrity, voter education, and strengthening the democratic processes in Kenya.

During the meeting, Mr. Marjan and his team reassured the young parliamentarians of their readiness to hit the ground running once the new Commission is in place. “We are committed to ensuring a smooth and credible electoral process, and we look forward to collaborating with all stakeholders to make this possible,” said Mr. Marjan.

In light of the upcoming voter registration period, Hon. Mukunji has called on the youth across the country to apply for and collect their identification cards, a necessary step for participation in the voting process. He urged the youth to seize the opportunity to engage actively in shaping the future of Kenya by ensuring they are registered voters ahead of the election period.

“The democratic process belongs to all of us, and it is crucial that the youth are prepared to cast their votes and make informed decisions that will impact their future and the future of our nation,” he added.

The youth of Kenya are urged to take the first step in this important process, ensuring that their involvement in the elections is both meaningful and impactful.
