Kenya Participates in Global Call for Financial Reform at Annual Policy Dialogue 2025

United Nations Headquarters, New York – The Annual Policy Dialogue 2025, hosted by the Club de Madrid, brought together global leaders, policymakers, and financial experts to address the urgent need for reforms in international financial governance. The high-level forum, held at the United Nations, focused on some of the most pressing economic challenges facing the world today, including taxation, debt relief, and systemic reforms to promote equity and sustainability.

Among the distinguished attendees was Danilo Türk, President of the Club de Madrid and former President of Slovenia, who emphasized the importance of inclusive dialogue and collective action in navigating the current global financial crisis.

During the deliberations, attention was drawn to the plight of developing nations—particularly African countries like Kenya—which are grappling with mounting debt burdens. The crisis has been significantly worsened by internal challenges such as corruption and fragile financial governance frameworks.

Kenya’s delegation highlighted the urgent need to enhance national debt assessment systems, calling for increased collaboration with global financial institutions to build robust, transparent mechanisms for sustainable borrowing and debt management.

“The time has come for the global financial system to work for developing nations, not against them,” one speaker remarked during a panel on equitable debt restructuring. “Our economies must be given room to breathe and recover.”

As the dialogue continues, it is hoped that the resolutions and policy frameworks discussed will influence meaningful reform in global financial structures, placing a premium on accountability, transparency, and sustainable development.

The Club de Madrid’s Annual Policy Dialogue remains a critical platform for advocating for a more inclusive and responsive global financial order—one that reflects the needs and realities of nations across all stages of development.
