Hon. Gitonga Mukunji Congratulates Newly Elected Kirimari Ward Boda Boda Leadership, Pledges Full Support

KIRIMARI WARD, EMBU COUNTY – A new chapter has begun for the boda boda sector in Kirimari Ward following the successful conclusion of elections for the local leadership team. The elections, which were conducted peacefully and transparently, brought together riders and stakeholders from across the ward, signaling a renewed sense of unity and purpose in the fast-growing transport sector.
Hon. John Gitonga Mukunji, Member of Parliament for Manyatta Constituency, extended warm congratulations to the newly elected officials and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the sector through policy, empowerment, and structured growth.
“Congratulations to the great team elected in the just completed Kirimari Ward Boda Boda Elections,” Hon. Mukunji said in his message. “This marks a critical step toward order, accountability, and transformation in the industry.”
Newly Elected Kirimari Ward Boda Boda Leadership:
- Bunju Benjamin Mukundi – Chairman
- Stephen Kibugi – Vice Chairman
- Dickson Chomba – Secretary
- Joseph Thuku – Treasurer
- Peter Ramsey – Chief Whip
Hon. Mukunji praised the election outcome as a strong foundation for structured engagement between boda boda operators and various government agencies. He noted that the new leadership provides an opportunity to address key issues in the sector, including safety, financial inclusion, access to government support programs, and sector regulation.

“My office will offer the necessary support to the team to ensure we transform the boda boda sector,” Hon. Mukunji affirmed. “These young men and women are the heartbeat of our local economy. Empowering them means uplifting our entire community.”
The boda boda sector remains a major source of employment for youth in Embu County and across Kenya. However, challenges such as lack of training, poor road safety, financial instability, and limited access to benefits have long hampered its full potential.
Hon. Mukunji called on the new leadership to work closely with Government officials, SACCOs, law enforcement, and other stakeholders to promote professionalism and unity in the sector. He emphasized that his office will facilitate access to training, business development services, and safety gear for registered riders.
Community members and sector players welcomed the MP’s remarks and expressed optimism that under the new leadership, Kirimari Ward’s boda boda operations will experience greater organization, transparency, and economic empowerment.
The elections, which drew considerable interest from youth and transport sector advocates, are expected to be a model for other wards across the constituency in strengthening grassroots leadership and participatory development.
