Kathangariri Dairies Launches Yummy Yoghurt, Boosting Local Dairy Industry

The dairy industry in Embu County received a significant boost with the official launch of Yummy Yoghurt, the latest product from Kathangariri Dairies in Nginda Ward. The unveiling ceremony was attended by local leaders, farmers, and industry stakeholders, marking a major step in value addition for the region’s dairy sector.
The establishment of the yoghurt factory is expected to have a far-reaching economic impact, creating over 200 direct jobs while providing a steady market for local dairy farmers. By processing and branding locally produced milk into high-quality yoghurt, Kathangariri Dairies is enhancing the region’s agricultural value chain and promoting economic sustainability.
Speaking at the launch, Managing Director Peter Mwaniki highlighted the company’s commitment to innovation and quality in dairy processing. “Our mission is to provide nutritious, locally made dairy products while ensuring that farmers get better returns for their milk. Yummy Yoghurt is a testament to our dedication to value addition and economic empowerment,” he said.

Local leaders commended the initiative, recognizing the factory’s role in boosting employment and improving livelihoods. “This project is a game-changer for our farmers and the entire community. It signifies the potential of homegrown industries in transforming our economy,” said one of the attending dignitaries.
In line with the government’s push for local manufacturing, leaders reaffirmed their commitment to supporting initiatives like Kathangariri Dairies. Through the Local Produce Consumption Bill, there is a renewed focus on encouraging the consumption of locally made products to strengthen domestic industries.
“As policymakers, we are determined to advocate for the prioritization of Kenyan-made products. The Local Produce Consumption Bill will ensure that locally manufactured goods receive affirmative action, fostering growth and sustainability in our manufacturing sector,” Hon. Gitonga Mukunji stated.
The launch of Yummy Yoghurt has been met with enthusiasm from dairy farmers and consumers alike, with expectations that it will set a benchmark for quality and affordability in the market. As the brand gains traction, it is anticipated to contribute significantly to the region’s economic growth and self-reliance in dairy processing.
With continued support from both the government and consumers, Kathangariri Dairies is poised to play a leading role in enhancing dairy production, job creation, and overall agricultural development in the region.
